In Europe it will be important to realize hight datasecure, so Google fonts are tricky about that. So, how could I use fonts direct on my server and how to implemantate them in my joomlage-template like "inspiration" and "freelance"

Thanks

Hello,

Google fonts load over https. I can never see this being an issue.

Thanks,
JohnO

Hello JohnO,

I'm sorry to say: zetzsche.biz is right, even with https it is an issue in Europe.

As long as the templates are coded that the fonts are loaded from the Google server Google has the possibilty for tracking. And they do so. That's the point in terms of data secure. There are new regulations that will effect from May 25 2018! If interested, see e. g.: DSGVO on wikipedia

If a webpage is getting the Google fonts from the Google server (and not from the server where the webpage is located) even the webdesigner is in duty to care about publishing information about this. And this needs tricky phrasing which should be consulted by a lawyer with very good experience in european internet law. Otherwise the punishment could be very, very(!) expensive - even for the web designer!

So, in Europe it is very recommended from May 25 2018 that the templates load the fonts from the "own" server where the webpage is located (and not from the Google server anymore).

Kind regards
LuckyD

Hello JohnO,

1)
Could you please give me an instruction/manual how to change your templates into a version completely free of Google.

2)
And in terms of the Google fonts:
With which change in your template (e. g. Epiphany) can I continue to use a certain font (e. g. Cantarell) by having this font already at disposal on my own webspace instead of that the browser is loading it from the Google server?

3)
Could you please create you new templates including the option that your (european) customer can choose between
. a) that your template is loading something from an extern server or instead
. b) is loading everything which is needed from the own webspace?
In terms of the DSGVO (mentioned above) it would be very, very help- and usefull.

Thank you in advance!
Kind regards
LuckyD

I also thought, that using SSL-links to google-fonts is enough, but so far with any informations I got it shows, that the only real DSGVO-ready way to use google-fonts is to download them and to use from local server.

Hello JohnO,
may I still expect a response / reaction from you in terms of this DSGVO-problem?
Kind regards
